Whiff Whaff Wonder! Arketype's Festival Tree Made From More Than 1,500 Ping-Pong Balls

GREEN BAY, WI, December 1, 2006 As grand sponsor of the annual YWCA Festival of Trees, Arketype, Inc., a Green Bay advertising and design firm continues its six-year tradition of transforming common objects into wildly wonderful Christmas trees. Beach balls, dryer vent hoses, and old newspapers have all been crafted into extraordinary trees in previous years. This year, it’s the ordinary Ping-Pong ball (a game once called whiff whaff) that gets the holiday treatment.
Standing at over 12-feet high and made from more than 1,500 Ping-Pong balls, the contemporary tree is currently on display at the National Railroad Museum during the festival, beginning today through December 8.
Part art installation, and often part recycling effort, the annual trees are created with a purpose in mind according to Paul Meinke, Arketype co-principal. “We strive to show that great holiday ideas don’t have to cost much, but can still be awe-inspiring and beautiful.” Meinke added, “This event is a great way we exercise our creative thinking while at the same time helping the YWCA and the National Railroad Museum.”
